Anti-Wrinkle therapy(commonly known as BOTOX®,Dysport,Xeomin,Azzalure)
Lines and wrinkles can be minimised by using a purified protein produced by Clostridium Botulinum (commonly known as BOTOX®,Dysport,Xeomin,Azzalure). Botulinum Toxin impedes nerve impulses to muscles that are responsible for the wrinkle lines. This relaxes these muscles so that they do not contract. This allows the skin to remain smooth and wrinkle free.
Botulinum is a substance that is produced by a bacteria. It is then refined, purified, diluted and used in therapeutic doses. Botulinum Toxin injections have been used safely for over twenty years to treat many neurological and ophthalmological disorders.
The results are usually seen within two to three days, with a marked improvement in wrinkle lines. The results will continue to improve for up to a month, and your skin will appear smoother. The results of the treatment last initially for up to four to six months. However with repeated treatments, the effect will last longer.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are used to treat wrinkles and facial lines. More and more patients are opting for this type of treatment than undergoing conventional surgery!
Skin starts to sag and wrinkle naturally with age, as underlying fat and collagen diminishes. With age collagen cells, which provide the structural support and shape skin, reduce in number which causes the skin to lose elasticity allowing fine lines and wrinkles to develop.
Dermal fillers are based on hyaluronic acid. This is found naturally throughout our bodies: in our skin, bones, joints, and eyes. It acts as a lubricant and moisturiser due to its ability to attract and store water. Hyaluronic Acid is clinically produced, usually from bacterial, not from animal or human sources. Other types are made with collagen. Newer types of filler with other ingredients claim to have a longer lasting effect.
Dermal fillers are used in procedures to smooth and 'fill out' areas such:
- Nose to Mouth Grooves
- Forehead Lines
- Frown Furrows
- Lipstick Lines
- Lip enhancement
- Acne Pits
- Crows Feet
- Plump out hollow cheeks
- Reshape the chin or nose tip
Results of these treatments are immediate and the effects can last anything from six to nine months, depending on which product is being used. All of the dermal filler are non-permanent and are absorbed naturally over time.
There may be some side effects. Some people can have slight bleeding and mild bruising, swelling, itching may also occur around the area. If you have lip treatment swelling can last 3-5 days, otherwise it is transient.
If you have a history of cold sores, dermal filler treatment in that area might cause them to break out again. However this can be prevented by prescribing a course of anti-viral tablets (e.g. acyclovir) immediately after the treatment and for a few days afterwards, to reduce the possibility of a recurrence.
